I have been struggling to find a good exfoliation scrub for a while and have tried so many. I have skin that is both sensitive and runs dry, so often scrubs can be too irritating for me. Recently I decided to start making my own and am quite pleased with the results, so thought I would share it for those of you who may be interested!
I mixed together what I knew was good for my skin, such as coffee grounds, cinnamon, and brown sugar (if cinnamon irritates your skin, then omit it) and put it in an old LUSH jar I had around. The approximate recipe is listed below (I say approximate because it can easily to tweaked and still have nice results).
Face and Body Exfoliating Scrub
1 heaping Tbls. ground coffee
1 heaping Tbls. brown sugar
2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 cup coconut oil, melted
2-3 teaspoons olive oil
1/2 tsp. pure glycerin (available at many drug stores)
Basically you just mix this all together in a bowl really well until it is a desired consistency. If it is too thick, add a bit more olive oil or glycerin, however I found these proportions to be best for me.
Once everything is mixed, store in a clean jar or plastic container and use just as any other exfoliating scrub (is fine on wet or dry skin).
Hope this is helpful! I definitely have found this exfoliates well and does not irritate my skin, which is really nice. It looks kind of funky, but smells really good. This works really well as a stand-alone lip scrub, too 🙂
